Scooter tyre sizes explained: how to read the sidewall and order the right tyre first time

Every scooter tyre has its size moulded into the sidewall, and once you can read it, ordering the right tyre takes thirty seconds. This guide explains the numbers, lists the sizes we keep on the shelf in London for the popular 125s, and shows you the fastest way to find yours.

Reading the sidewall: what 110/70-13 means

Take a typical front tyre marking: 110/70-13.

  • 110 — the width of the tyre in millimetres.
  • 70 — the profile (aspect ratio): the sidewall height as a percentage of the width. A 70-profile tyre's sidewall is 70% of 110 mm tall.
  • 13 — the rim diameter in inches.

After the size you'll usually see a load and speed marking such as 48S — 48 is the load index and S is the speed rating. Replacing like-for-like on size is the rule; if you want to change load or speed rating, ask us first.

You'll also see TL on modern scooter tyres — tubeless. Everything we stock for the models below is tubeless.

Front and rear are usually different

On most modern scooters the front and rear tyres are different sizes — a NMAX 125 takes a 110/70-13 front and a 130/70-13 rear, for example. Always check which end you're buying for; our listings say Front or Rear in the title.
